Are Bamboo Toothbrushes Effective?

Over the past few years, bamboo toothbrushes have really grown in popularity due mainly to their environmentally-friendly benefits. But are these eco-friendly toothbrushes actually effective and should you consider using one in place of a regular, plastic toothbrush? Well, there are several reasons why a bamboo toothbrush is just as, or even more, effective than a normal, plastic toothbrush. First of all, a bamboo toothbrush has a bamboo handle but the same kind of bristles as a normal plastic one. This means that when it comes to cleaning your teeth, both kinds of toothbrushes would be equally good. The next benefit of using a bamboo toothbrush is that they are naturally anti-microbial. This is a definite advantage over a plastic toothbrush, which does not share the same characteristic. Because they are anti-microbial, bamboo toothbrushes will not provide a suitable environment for bacteria to thrive and this will give you peace of mind that your toothbrush is squeaky clean. This is the reason that many dentists are now recommending using a bamboo toothbrush instead of a plastic one.

Unfortunately, plastic toothbrushes are not anti-microbial and, after only a few uses, they begin to harbor bacteria at a rapid rate. This is not good news for the health of your mouth and teeth and makes you prone to infections. A bamboo toothbrush can be used with both toothpaste or toothpaste tablets and is plastic-free. Although plastic can be recycled, the energy required in the recycling process is not good for the environment. Bamboo occurs naturally, regenerates and grows rapidly. It is also highly biodegradable and does not require external energy to be recycled. In a nutshell, bamboo toothbrushes are excellent tools for cleaning one’s teeth and should definitely be considered as your next type of toothbrush!
